Astarion laughed. “You don’t have to ask.”

“Indulge me,” Staeve murmured. “I just wanted to be sure.”

He could tell that it pleased Astarion, for even if he was rolling his eyes at Staeve’s antics, he couldn’t hide the flustered flush that crept up his neck. “Kiss me then, you silly man.”

Staeve smiled. Nerves prickled under his skin when he leaned to press his mouth against Astarion’s. They had kissed before, obviously — heated exchanges at the peak of passion, licking the taste of blood from each other’s mouths — but it had never been like this.

It was too gentle a kiss for a lover that he’d been sharing his bed with for so long, and almost too intense for a man who only recently had admitted he could be in love. Astarion melted in his arms, the last thread of hesitation snapping on the tip of their tongues.

A quiet noise of pleasure escaped his throat as Staeve finally pulled back.

“Thank you,” Staeve purred, wiping some wetness from Astarion’s lip with his thumb.

Astarion shook his head, smiling. “I rather liked that, you know.”

“Which part?”

“The asking,” He tucked a curl behind his ear, and then smiled at Staeve, impish. “I guess the kissing wasn’t bad, either.”

“Can I kiss you again?”

Astarion smiled. “I wouldn’t mind another taste.”
